The whole concept of the Google page rank toolbar has been rather de-valued over the last two years. This is mainly due to the controversial but necessary purge on paid links. This has resulted in many high traffic and powerful websites being given a page rank toolbar penalty. This red colour shows danger, it shows the public that the site does pass on “link juice” which would indicate that it has been penalised. A site which does pass “link juice” could be shown with a green colour but if it were to start selling backward links would then be at risk from turning red.

For this to work Google would have to stop passing the link juice from a site where it expects or knows is selling links. Will it ever happen? I guess only time will tell.
